    Hello all

Well I've decided to lose weight as I'm overweight, I'm 6'1 and I'm a teen so I'll still be growing, well I've decided to do 6km (which includes a big hill climb at the last stretch)walks 5 days a week, and walking very fast, it takes me about 55 mins 9:32 per km, that was yesterday so it will improve by time, then followed by 2km walks on saterday and Sunday, then at night after walking il be doing some push ups, weight lifting etc, I've lost weight before, but this time I want to lose a good lot of weight, my diet will be fairly simple,
    Morning: Porridge with fruit
Lunch: 2 pita brown bread with butter, or brown roll with butter, ham, and lettuce
Dinner: normally chicken Breast with 3 spuds and mixed veg
Then fruit I'd would be eating apples, bananas etc
I'll be drinking 2l of water every day
I won't be eating anything sweet, but would this be enough to loss 100lb in about 7 months? I'd obviously have the occasional treat like once a month! I'm very picky person food choice but I know lunch isn't the best choice, I just want to know what you guys/girls think about my diet and 100lb in 7 months or so!

    Thanks,

Spuds are lovely. They have a lot of calories though. Maybe change down to 1 spud?

You have great determination and I admire that. However, perhaps it woul be best to talk to your doc about how to do it properly. You said you're a teenager so you need to make sure you are still getting the right nutrients and all that.

I also advise you take each day as it comes so that if you have any set backs, you can recover from them instead of just throwing in the towel.

    Good luck tthough. :)

Well the weight loss will mainly come down to the calories.

    The amount coming in (food)
    vs
    The amount going out (moving)

It's kinda up to the person how they manage how much they take in. See what's good for you.

If it's any help, all labels in supermarkets have the calories written on em. It's the number with KCAL written beside it. General rule of thumb is a person uses around 2000 a day without exercise.

You might also be able to get an exercise thing on your phone for tracking you while you walk. They usually tell you how much calories you use. The distance you are talking about sounds good.

That sounds a bit too high but the number will depend on your weight and how steep the walk is. Does the app let you input them? This is an online calculator for comparison.

You also need to remember that 2000 is just guideline for a typical person. It varies based on height/gender/weight and age. You can calculate your basal metabolic rate online. This is the number of calories you would use just staying in bed all day.

Try slimming world. I went from 15.7 to 13.6 in 7 months by mainly changing my diet.

    Hi,

I was thinking that is was wrong, the app doesn't let you input,I installed another app to see how it does, I checked and I have a 2379 calorie a day, then I checked the calorie burn it said about 590 calories, I've started to eat 2 or 1 spud now which is a big change!
    Thanks.

Hi, I think your exercise plan is good but do remember, to take a rest day. You need to give your muscles time to recover and this will also help with weight loss. In terms of diet, I would cut down on the potatoes if possible. They are pretty stodgy and not ideal to eat after around 6pm. As someone else mentioned, Slimming World is a great way to lose weight in a healthy way! Good luck and well done on your determination :)

You're better off not concerning yourself with calories burned from exercise at this stage. Most calculators overestimate that anyway.

Notwithstanding the advice about talking to a doctor, my own experience (I've lost over 5.5 stone, nearly at target now) is not to go too extreme on the diet to start with. I went with a 500 calorie deficit a day on my diet (worked out from the sticky at the top), using myfitnesspal and a set of scales to track what I was eating.

You'll probably be surprised at how much you can eat, once you stay away from processed food, when you are starting off. I've found it beneficial to be on a gradual process of eating healthy as the deficit got harder to stick too, rather than a big bang which I don't think I would've stuck too.

I then aimed to "earn" at least 500 from exercise, and tried not to eat into any of that.

Anyway, just to repeat go to the doctor and/or slimming world if apps and weighing seems to much. And good luck.

If you are still interested in Weight Loss, a friend of mine did the Virtual Gastric Band Advanced Hypnotherapy Program in four sessions, and she lost 3 stone and kept it off for two years now. The thing with the Hypnotherapy program is that it makes you think that you have actually had the real gastric band surgery, it makes you feel satisfied with eating much smaller portions, it turns you off over-eating chocolate, cakes, and fried and fattening foods, makes you really enjoy eating healthy foods, stops cravings and what's also so good about it is that it also makes you think like you are a slim person. So it works on so many psychological levels, there is good chance of and outstanding success, all without having to go on a diet or counting a single calorie. The hypnosis completely changes your attitude to food. The hypnotherapist gave my friend recordings of the sessions too so she could listen to them again at home if she wanted to. It really worked for her. The hypnotherapist my friend went to is in Cork City but if you choose any good hypnotherapist who is experienced in Virtual Gastric Band Advanced Hypnotherapy I am sure it will work just as good.
