I have been a eircom customer for the past 24 years and I have to say that the service I have experienced in recent days is pathetic!

A minor broadband connection switch over which we were told would take circa 5 days is currently on day 11, and will take a further 4-5 days to resolve.

We have contacted customer service on 4 different occasions, which itself is a hassel, and each time we have heard a different story. Not to mention one of the agents being exceptionally rude, she was not far off telling us our service wasnt needed.

I could not reccommend eircom less as far as service and customer service. I would advise people to avoid them as we have had nothing but hassel and grief.

UPC definitely seem the way to go, they couldnt be more helpful or friendly.

You'll get good and bad experiences with all operators. The fact that you're with them 24 years would suggest that it wasn't all bad. (Granted, some of that time they had a monopoly!)

Sometimes stuff takes longer than usual, and the person on the phone doesn't know the reasons or know enough about how processes work to explain the reason to you.

Except Eircom are indeed a special case of incompetent.

You should switch then, 24 years you'e probably out of contract.

That "switch over" was probably an upgrade(ADSL1-2, ADSL-VDSL) or maybe a house move. Either way the issue is likely with wholesale technicians doing physical work, so the only way to switch away from that problem is UPC or FWA.

Seems the lads over on Waterford Whispers have a similar take on Eircom.

What I find even more interesting is, for the first time that I can remember ... and I've been reading WWN for more than 18 months ... not one but two of the companies lampooned have responded in the comments section.
