I have being offered a job by a recruitment agency working as a contractor with a large company. I am currently employed directly by my current employer a large employer. Is there any disadvantage to not being employed directly by the employer

You only get paid for the days you work. Average it at 19 pm. There are companies who can set you up under an umbrella organization and deduct tax/ prsi etc. You send them.the invoice and they pay you less deductions.
Give them a call with your figures and they can tell you how much you'd earn.

The advantage should be that you'll be getting paid more than the equivalent full time salary for the same position, even after taking into account loss of holidays/sick days/bonus etc. If that's not the case then you'd definitely be better off with a full time position directly with the company.

Only other advantage is being able to write off some purchases as a business expense (and reclaim VAT) if you go the limited company route, but there's costs involved with going that route too so it doesn't suit everyone.
