Experience with getting Deposits back from Auctioneers

I am about to pay a €3000 deposit on an apartment in Limerick, the auctioneer tells me that it's completely refundable if the sale doesn't go through. What sort of written guarantee should I look for in regards to this? Has anyone ever had a bad experience with auctioneers withholding deposits or refusing to pay them back?

I'd try to get it in an email. It is standard practice for a booking deposit to be refundable all the way to contract signature time but I'd still want it written down to fall back on.

Never had issues with returning deposit, mind you, I had been always dealing with big agencies, and never with vendor selling by himself. Normally when you give deposit they write you a receipt.

    Hope this helps.

It should be written on your receipt that it is fully refundable
