Used Car - Features missing from Advertisement

    Hi there,

I saw an ad for a Passat car on a dealers website. It listed a list of features such as Cruise control and Bluetooth phone.

I collected the car and while driving home I noticed that these above features do not exist. I have a copy and paste of the advertised features saved before I bought the car and these features are listed and could have sworn that the cruise control was installed when I test drove it - it could hardly be removed would it ?

I've tried to contact the dealer but cant seem to get them on the phone nor a response by email, is there anything I can do here or do I have to chalk it up to experience?

    Thanks

    Turnip sky

if you have a printout of the ad you have proof thats what it was advertised as.
A copy and paste wouldnt be much good as proof as it can be edited.
but under the sale of goods and supply of services act 1980 , it must be as described. which it isnt .
The thing is do you like the car and are happy with it . if you are forget about it.
If not go back to the dealer and see what he says.
You may need to go to a solicitor but at best you will get your money back and have to look for a new car

What model Passat is it? The B6/B7 Passat cruise control is located on a separate stalk on the left hand side of the steering wheel. Bluetooth was only made standard on them in later models or Highline models and should be listed in the car's on board computer menu. Very unlikely a garage would remove these things without leaving a gaping hole in the side of the steering wheel rack or go to the trouble of taking out a bluetooth module.

But being honest if you were really sold on these features then it would have been more prudent to have confirmed they were present before buying the car. Unfortunately many cars are advertised incorrectly either through honest mistake or otherwise so the buyer really needs to check these things out before buying rather than depending on an advertisement description.

The best outcome maybe to go back to the garage and express your disappointment that the car doesn't have them despite being advertised as such. The best you may hope for is for a decent garage to offer you maybe a complementary service or fuel voucher I'd say but beyond that they contribute towards the cost of getting both retrofitted which is easy enough to get done.

cheers lads. I must see if I have a PDF print out of the AD, I might do. I love the car other than the above.. It's an 11 Passat and it say's its a highline... not sure what B number it is ? how do I find out?

Do you know if it is easy to fit the Bluetooth module? I have the RCD510 in the car so not sure what module I'd even need :(

Also do you know any good internet forums to join for Passats? I tried autostadt but didn't get an email from admin.

A 2011 Passat would be a B7. The Highline model should have half or full leather heated seats. Even the lower spec Comfortline has cruise control. Bluetooth would probably have been an optional extra even on the Highline back in 2011. RCD510 should have a phone button so press it and see if it gives you options on the screen to pair with a phone. If it does nothing then chances are it doesn't have Bluetooth.

Is the car a UK import by any chance? Their specs are different to ours.

The 11 Highline had no cruise even though the 10 model had..

That's nuts. Even the B6 Comfortline had it so I would have put money on a B7 Highline having it.

To be honest taking out cruise control is such a silly exclusion by vw that I nearly wouldn't blame the dealer for assuming it was there on a 2011 highline.
Its an easy retrofit anyway to install full factory cruise Control.

    Indeed.

OP, George Dalton on this forum is the man you want to talk to about getting CC retrofitted. Not so sure about the Bluetooth but he will tell you either way.

A fiscon bluetooth kit can certainly be fitted and will look identical to factory.
All this is a few hundred euro though so a bad mistake handing over the cash without checking.

thanks for all your help folks.... To be honest i assumed the HL version had all this as standard :( My mistake and possibly the dealers mistake also, & mental note made for my next car or actually anything from now on

I'd email the garage going "my Bluetooth and cruise control don't seem to be working, can you sort it as these were some of the main reasons I chose this particular car"
