More of a rant, I am getting so sick and tried of always hearing on the radio another road closed to private traffic or making streets pedestrian only. I am sick to death of been stuck at junctions that need upgrading, even a simple upgrade like a change of lights to make traffic flow better.

The nightmare tax system before 08/09 where driving anything over a 1.4 is going to cost you your first child.

The bully boy insurance companies who are allowed do what ever the hell they want, even attacking cars saying there unsafe with valid NCT's, next they will be telling us to buy new houses as they won't be insuring 'old' houses.

No traffic cops, anyone and everyone seems to do what they like, and I am not talking about fining everyone, some people just need to be spoken too. Fines are the solution to every single problem in motoring.

The sheer amount of money I pay to run my car per year and I am treated like a second class citizen in terms of tax on the car itself, down to some outrageous tax on fuel @ around 60%.

I cringe when I see the transport Minister on the TV talking about how great it is to open a Luas track across the city at a massive cost, when if you asked him I bet he couldn't even answer a basic question, like for example 'how much is a Luas ticket?'

Then there's Dublin bus and bus lanes, and with no one actually giving two ****s about the grid lock, these giant moving houses are stuck sometimes 4/5 in a row just sitting there, making the situation even worse.

I know some of the points have holes, but I really do feel like a second class citizen in terms of the governments approach to private motorists, its bloody disgraceful and it's easily brushed away with 'we want you to use, public transport', well public transport sucks and isn't an option for me to use anyway !

Govt know we need cars so they screw us.

    "Shurre get the bus"

    "Shurre get a newer car"

"Shurre what do you be needing more than a 1 litre engine for"

Biggest joke of a cartel going.

what do you be needing more than a 1 litre engine for.

They take more tax from people driving larger capacity cars, but they've killed the 2.5/3 litre plus market for the majority. If they dropped the high tax bands they might actually pull in more cash. Say the €1809 rate reduced to €990 I think it would tempt a number of people. They'd pull in more vrt as well as these cars are generally highly priced.

Friend was looking at getting a CLS 55 AMG and he found one for 16k or so recently.

Dealer wouldn't sell it to him as he stood to make more getting a vrt rebate and sending it to the uk for sale.

I agree completely as a 2.6 litre tax bracket sucker it should be made more reasonable.

No car is worth 1k tax i keep telling myself.

The same as my feelings about it.
I'm Polish, first time arrived in Ireland in 2004, and live here permanently since 2007.
It's a really great country to live in, and great people. Most aspects of living are fairly well and reasonable organised.
But unfortunately when it comes to motoring, what we have here in Ireland is quiet a disaster. Most other countries in Europe do it much better.

There's no voice for the motorist, the AA are a complete joke, why some new/other organisation can't step up to the plate is beyond me.

Extremely annoyed. Especially since my mom (with all my love, but she is a terrible driver; sneaks through red lights and gets into a fender bender at least every other year) told me how upset she is that her car insurance has gone up from $80 to $115.

I only wish. She lives in the States...in one of those "lucky" states where insurance isn't even mandatory. Grrrrr.....
