UAN for a line

Does anyone know if it is possible to find out the UAN for a line that you are not the account holder for?

I have moved into a new place and apparently I need the UAN to set up broadband. I don't know this as i wasn't the account holder and there are no old bills about.

I managed to get the phone number for the line. If I can find out the provider, would they tell me the UAN if I asked? Or do I need to pass the security questions to do that?

The UAN belongs to the account holder rather than the address. Call again and hopefully you'll get someone who can set you up.

So they should be able to set me up without the UAN and transferring the previous customer?
I was told they could do something for new tenants, but it takes 6 weeks to process. Was kinda hoping for something quicker than that.
And apparently if the previous customer cancels the line then it takes 6 months to set it back up.

Are you dealing with sky or something?

Yeah I am. Is this just something they do?
I found out the number for this line and who the provider was before me. Does that help at all?

All I needed when signing up to sky was my address.
Maybe the previous owner left someone high and dry?

They looked up the address on the phone but couldn't find it. The could find my neighbors tho. That's why I was told they need the UAN. Apparently that means someone else is using the line still.

Check if the line is still active first. Plug in a landline phone, if you get a dial tone, dial 19800 and 199000, that will give you the current phone number and provider.

Contact that provider and request they cancel the line under New Tenant Process. That will take quite a while though. Unfortunately you cant request the UAN for a switch.

Are UPC in your area? That'll be the quickest option.

I've done that, that's how I got the provider and line number.

Yeah they said it will take 6 weeks to process that way. I need it for work, so I don't really want to be waiting that long for it.

Nah, I'm all the way up in Donegal. We'll be lucky to have UPC by 3015 at this rate.

Unless you can get the previous tenant to cancel their service all you can do is wait.

I was told if they cancel the line then it will be 6 months before broadband can be added to the line again.
