How long to wait before contacting interviewer?

Interviewed for a job the other week. It was the second interview.

They said they'd be in touch that afternoon or the next.

    Have heard nothing since.

I presume I haven't got the job but want to email them to see what the story is "just following up on the interview"....

Is a week and a half an acceptable time frame to send off the email... I just want to forget about it but want to have a definite answer either way.

I would advise to phone and ask to speak to the person who conducted the interview.
An email can easily be ignored.
While on the phone, it is a good chance to ask for more personal feedback to help you with future interviews.

    Thanks for that...

I find reneging on such a commitment very unprofessional, if one gives a commitment to give a feedback by a certain time then one should follow through on it, even if it is just to say that more time is required for the decision process.

Yes, it would now be acceptable be contact them, with a phone call most likely being your best option.

I actually sent an email but if I don't hear anything back on that I'll phone on Monday...

It doesn't surprise me anymore that people act like this - it is unprofessional but I've interviewed in other places where I have never heard anything back... and these are people with whom I might do business with in the future.

I was in a similar situation last year and there can be a delay while their first choice candidate decides whether or not to accept the job. Doesn't necessarily mean it's game over. I didn't get the job in the end but did get positive and useful feedback (& some freelance work further down the line :)) when I phoned and spoke to the interviewer directly. Good luck.

    Thanks for the advice.

I presumed that another candidate was offered the position and they were working out references, start dates etc.

I'll follow up the email with a call if I don't hear back by Monday.

So emailed lrecruiter ast week and heard nothing back.

Called the employer and spoke to the manager with whom I had interviewed.

He was genuinely shocked that the recruiter hadn't been in touch and apologised profusely. Said that the position has been offered the week of the interview.

Two hours later I get an email from the recruitment consultant saying that I hadn't been successful and that the appointment had only been made in the last couple of days.
