Radio sucking life from battery

    Hi,

I've a 03 Astra that I've recently changed the CD player/radio in and it works perfectly. I had to do a bit of rewiring on the power connector cables to suit new radio. However if I don't use the car for a few days I find that the battery is totally drained.

Removed the power connector from radio means the car battery doesnt drain.

I don't really understand what is causing it. When I turn ignition off then the radio switches off (it won't even turn on unless ignition is on). Not even the time or idle display comes on radio when ignition is off.

How can I go about troubleshooting it? Would a multimeter help me?

Does your new radio have bluetooth?

What happens if you swap the constant lives and switched lives around? Does the radio work as normal still?

I'm just getting to look at this now.

Pic on left is the wiring diagram for my car and pic on right is the wiring for my radio. I've put connections in the "New radio" column. Are you suggesting to swap the Red and Yellow?

If i remember rightly you need to switch around the constant live and ignotion lives when replacing an opel stereo with an aftermarket one.

    Thanks Martin,

Is this the red and yellow in the above diagram?

To complicate things I actually have all the cables in the above central column expect row O - I have 2 Thick Red w/ Brown Stripe instead of Thick Red w/ White Stripe.

I cant see those diagrams as im on my phone.

On the audio unit look for the B+ probably be the red wire and the acc wire probably the yellow wire swap those two around.

    Yes.

Thanks for the help guys. I've swapped these cables and although the radio doesn't keep its memory (e.g. stations, last mp3 track) at least it doesn't drain the battery.

    Thanks again.
