Loosing signal

I don't actually turn my tv on much anymore with netflix, but I have recently started to constantly lose my signal. I turned the tv on a couple of weeks ago and was missing the majority of my channels so I tuned them in again. Didn't use the tv much in the interim. Last weekend was losing signal on Ch 4, gave up & went to bed. Turned it on last night and missing a heap of channels again, so tuned them all in and was working fine last night. Today I'm now not able to pick up signals for the following:
    itv 2 + 1
Ch 4 (but can pick up Ch 4 HD)
    more 4 + 1
    film 4
    film 4 + 1
    ch 5
    ch 5 + 1
    ch 5 + 24
    5 USA
    5 USA + 1
    5*
    5* + 1
    CBS Action

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? Its getting really annoying having to constantly tune in the channels.

Well, I don't think I need you to confirm that it's definitely a satellite receiver, since some of those channels aren't on terrestrial ...

Anyhow, Channel 4, & Channel 5 lineup haven't changed frequencies in a long time, so if you're getting 'no signal' displayed on these, it will be an actual signal problem, not down to incorrect tuning, as might have been the case with some of the other channels (on top of the signal problem).

    I presume retuning didn't/won't bring back C4 & C5 services?

Just tried then to get the ch 5 channels - it's not finding anything. I have an Ariva set top box and that is showing signal intensity as 45% and quality at 10% for 10.964. So is it the satelite has moved slightly or something else?

Yeah, the dish has probably become misaligned.

You could also check for more obvious things, e.g. the cable from the dish, where it connects to the box may have been damaged by movement.

The satellites are constantly moving within a small area, but not enough to affect reception 23,000 miles away on earth.

But with those figures it does suggest the dish is out of alignment or something is obstructing its view such as new tree growth.

I meant the satellite dish, not the actual satellite! No tree growth or anything obstructing it so i'd say it is out of alignment...time to get some in to fix it :(

Just updating this as i'm picking up all the channels again and i haven't done anything to the dish. Could it be weather related?

If the system is set up properly, & kept that way, the weather won't have any noticeable effect, except maybe in an exceptional downpour.

Thanks. Thought the crappy weather on mon/tues might have caused the problem. Guess i'll just see how it goes now...fingers crossed it stays ok.

I'm not saying the problem wasn't caused by the weather, as in the wind misaligning the dish, or water getting in somewhere it shouldn't.

Just that weather-related effects on the signal shouldn't cause problems, unless there is an already existing fault with your dish, cables etc.
