Hi I'm just wondering whether this has kept many people out of action for long ? lot's of small bone's there, first few weeks could be rough ?. Thinking of going for a medium sized on my foot. But wary of possibly being unable to run for a while?.

    Thoughts appreciated

    S ;)

Pain-wise you'll be out for a day or two max, but the only thing you'll need to be wary of is friction and not rubbing the tattoo off before it's healed properly. You need to mind it fairly well. It should be fully healed in under two weeks, so it depends on where it is and if you can protect it properly if you want to run on it before then.
Ask the tattoo artist if they have any tricks or ideas that might help. Or run barefoot :p

Wont have any impact on your bones!

Itll be fine to run on within a matter of days except for friction so would advise waiting until the skin is fully healed - anything from 10 days to 3 weeks Id imagine.

The bones/tendons close to the surface could make it a relatively painful spot for a tattoo, but the tattoo isn't going to do them any harm. Agree with the others, your problem is going to be friction stopping the area from healing

Why on earth would you want a tattoo on your foot?

I think Ultra is suggesting that tattoos on any part of the body are completely pointless.

    Fixed your post.

I'm actually not into tattoo's really myself, my 'body' is entirely clear and I like it clear, but I do want my foot 'done' :) Only on display if I want it to be, and yeah I'm going for it :) but am concerned about the running :) it would probably be rough for a week or two , sock's, shoes etc ;)

My GP years ago passed out 3 times whilst getting a small tattoo done on her foot. I hope you don't mind fainting.

How concerned can you really be about your running when you are voluntarily putting a little permanent drawing onto the part of the body critical for said pastime? :)

Meh, some people can't take a bit of pain. Yeah it hurts, but it's a very cope-with-able pain. It's easier than running on shin splints for example.

Its a drawing. Theyre not having their toes amputated.

Op, can you schedule this for a time youre not targetting a race so you could cross train at something else if you need to not run? And really you should be asking your tattooist all this. If they also run so much the better, theyll understand!

Foot is pretty tender and usually swells after it has been tattooed. Once the swelling goes down and it's healed you will be good to run. Ideally you want to keep it clean and free from sweat so like others have said it will probably take around 1-3 weeks depending on how quick you heal and the size of the tattoo. My foot took around 2 weeks to heal, and quess what??? I'm still able to run!

did you run during the healing process Joey ? :)

Sorry Spirogyra only seeing this now. Nope didn't run when it was healing really, not because of the tattoo but because of the snow we had when I got it done. I'd say after a week the majority of swelling and the bit of bruising was gone down so would have been ok, just make sure to keep it clean, the foot at the best of times is a hard place to keep clean with a tattoo. Go sockless as much as possible and barefoot too.
