Having an issue with consistent picture break up / pixelation across a couple of rooms on my Freesat system. Noticed it a small bit a couple of months back & it appears to be exacerbated by high winds.

Had cabling & a new LNB installed 4 years ago, though I only noticed recently the retractable plastic cover protecting the connections wasn't pulled down when it was originally fitted.

Presume installers active in the forum see service calls like this often enough & wondering whether water ingress and / or loose connections are the likely culprit?
    Quad LNB with 4 feeds:

    - 1 coax to lounge feeding Humax Foxsat (non-PVR) showing Sig Strength fluctuating between 100% and 0% and Quality between a peak of 70% and dipping as low as 0%

    - 2 coax to den feeding Humax Foxsat-HDR with 0% / 0% on tuner 1 and values very much like the lounge above on tuner 2.

    - 1 coax to home office (haven't checked sig strenth & quality here but frequent picture breakup is occuring).

Have you checked the dish for movement?

It certainly hasn't skewed to a point where there's been a noticeable shift in direction.

Could a very minor realignment throw things out of kilter to such a extent?

Yep it sure can. The slightest movement on the dish can cause signal problems.

Crows sit on my dish and destroy the signal. Would them sitting on the arm between dish and lnb do that normally or is my dish out of alignment too? Going to get spikes to stick on the arm anyway.

They will block the signal completely ---- use some plastic cable ties on the arm without cutting the excess off too short will stop them .

Great idea, I'll give it a go, thanks.

So assuming it is a dish realignment issue only (not requiring new LNB, cabling or dish etc), what would be a ballpark callout figure from the pro's hereabouts for such a job?

    Ask them.

You misunderstood. No one on here can quote without knowing more about the job. That is why you need to ask your local pro for a quote. If your dish is on a 2 metre pole in the back garden the cost will be different than say on the chimney stack of a three story house.

I know what you were getting at winston, but asked for a ballpark figure from Boardsies.

Assuming it's a routine dish realignment with no challenging or unusual conditions on site, I'd imagine installers who frequent the forum would most likely have a figure in mind.

Absolutely but boards forbids advertising (unless you have a rep account and even then the company must be mentioned by name ) so probably best to contact any prospective installer directly .

Edit: perhaps this thread might help http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=155714

If its an easy enough job with no obstructions, issues etc you might find some one to do it for around 50 - 60 euro.

I certainly wouldn't ask someone to quote me directly or definitively for work on thread Tony.

But providing a rough estimate of standard pricing across the trade for such work couldn't reasonably be construed as advertising. Happens across countless fora on Boards every day. It may not even be what you yourself charge, but I'm guessing you'd have a pretty good idea of what your counterparts bill on average - again assuming it's a fairly standard realignment with nothing further required.

Perhaps so but I've been on this forum a long time and there have been instances where there were complaints made when someone from the the trade responded to a query such as yours so you will forgive me for erring on the side of caution . There is no standard pricing, for example a gentleman called me last just a few days ago who claimed someone had carried out a service call for 35 euros ( he could no longer get hold of them so that tells its own story). Perhaps you could PM someone in your area from the supplier list I posted, I'm sure that would be ok

    Sorry for the off topic

Totally agree with you Tony I gave a guy an idea of a quote on here once and he wasn't in my area and got complained about as I was told Dublin would be more expensive than Limerick, now I do as you suggest and tell people pm for a quote.

Same thing also happens to me when i give a quote over the phone people telling me they can get it cheaper elsewhere but want me to do as I come recommended for the same extra low price...happened me today when a customer asked me to run an external cat5 cable from one property to another told me it was a bit dear...they think cable is free and our vans run on water and let alone our insurance costs....does my head in..of course others are cheaper as they are scam artists that wont be around at 10 o clock at nite to ring when things go wrong...
