Just saw a PIC on Connaught tribune facebook feed of the water in Salthill and this tent. I've seen this guy camping here the entire summer. Hes down between ladies beach and blackrock all summer.
I was wondering are you allowed just put up a tent anywhere in public or are u supposed to use a campsite?
I know they had stopped camper vans in town for a bit but what's the deal with tents.

I've spoken to the dude who stays in this tent and he's not there for leisure.

As to your question, I'm sure the council will invent some by-law or other but I hope they give this guy a free pass...

Hmmm. Maybe he's thinking longer term and more recently down on his luck financially.
Selling the auld boat in the famine was not a smart move.

I hope he's ok today - rough night last night

Surely there are better places he could camp than on the prom? Last night was a disaster but even on a normal night it's going to be windy and cold on the prom compared to other places around the city.

The prom is probably safer than more secluded areas

The report button, find it and use it.

Thats a bit harsh and judgmental.

Possession of a motorbike isn't an indicator of anything really

I was really just wondering if it was allowed as in who would tell him to move or other people for that matter if mire people followed him in his camping. Although, i dobt think that is harsh at all.... Imo if he can pay insurance and put petrol in a motorbike and can spend a summer chilling around Galway he must have funds.
Really i was wondering if it was allowed is all

I believe there are by-laws forbidding it, but cannot find them to quote. The council certainly put up "no camping" signs near Claddagh Basin after someone had a tent there recently.

Remember a while back there was a student at NUI Galway who spent an entire semester living in a tent somewhere near the campus?
