Asbestos waste

Does anyone know if I'm legally obliged to remove waste asbestos from my own property.
Had some work done years ago on an old roof and I have some sheets of asbestos lying around ever since.
Went and got a quote for removal and disposal and its coming in at 750 euro.
Would I be breaking any laws if I simply continued to store the asbestos on site?
750 euro is just too much money for me to spend right now, but I'm kind of worried that a certain nosy parker neighbor of mine might call the EPA on me.

Yes u are, even if I dump it on your site you pay,. mad but the law.
    As an interim measure,
    dampen the material.
get 1200 gauge plastic and double wrap and tape it,
ideally if you can put it on a pallet. Keep covered from the sun.
Thats what they do when they remove, or at least should do.
I mean wrap and tape it once and them again, not double layer taped once.
Then for your friend, stick a few of these labels on :)

For the love of God get the right mask when dealing with that stuff. It does its maximum damage when breathed in as dust. Soak it too before you go near it.

Its asbestos, Id hardly consider the neignbour as a nosey parker if you are storing asbestos waste or any kind of hazardous waste, if they are aware of it then its obvious enough to them that they should consider it a hazard, it would seem obvious they have a reasonable cause of concern?
You state your concern is that you'll get in trouble rather than doing something about it over the matter of €750.
Would this be any less a problem if they didnt know about it?
I think Id want it gone myself, and be looking into getting it removed as a priority, have you any idea what type of asbestos it is?

Grey Asbestos is pretty OK. You need large and constant exposure for it to cause harm. The Blue and Brown Asbestos is the bad one. If you bag it. You need to get it as a damp as possible. Dont break it or cut it at all. Then get 1000 gauge plastic to store it. Double bag it.

You need to get a body overall to cover your clothes and hair. Most importantly get a HEPA face respirator. The kind that is made by 3M and about €40. I think its called a P100. Call an Asbestos disposal companies, who will probably be a lot cheaper if you have the Asbestos bagged and ready for disposal.

Just do it on a wet day. Do not use power tools to cut sheets, do not saw it . 3m respirator a good idea as well. Be grand.

I wonder if it could be incorporated into a concrete slab; maybe a driveway or patio extension? Bit of a mafioso suggestion I know, but burying it should make it safe for a very long time. And how do the pros handle it anyway..

Extremely illegal. Plus of the council find out they'll be digging it up and the OP will be settling their bill. Far cheaper in the long run to properly dispose of it now.

The trouble with burying it is that some poor fella comes along in 50 years time with a jack hammer to dig up that driveway or patio, thereby breaking the asbestos sheets up and spreading the dust. Your actions could seriously injure or kill somebody many years in the future.

I'm in the "leave it be" camp to be honest. Many buildings still contain asbestos, we have an old cow shed on our property that we use as a workshop, it has an asbestos roof that's probably been in place for 50 years. It would be more dangerous to tear the roof off, disturbing and inevitably breaking some sheets, than to just leave the thing where it is.

So turn a couple of contaminated sheets into a whole garden of contaminated fill.

    OP, do not do this.

Environmental Health section of your local council may offer some
Advice of disposal. Basically they might tell you who is registered to take it away.
