Just wondering if anyone on here is running this groupset. Are all 22 gears available for use without chain rub with help from the yaw front mech? I'm currently using the 10 speed older version and 17 of the 20 gears are usable with a lot of chain rub on the remaining 3. Thanks in advance for any replies.

All 22 are available without any rub.

yeah the wife has that groupset on her bike. actually just checked it for ye there now, and I got all the gears, including the cross-chaining ones you are concerned about and the chain didn't rub off the mech.
Full range of 22 without rubbing- actually still changing as crisp as the day she got the bike. Lovely groupset.

Bike itself was set up by the crew there in Edge Sports Shop in Cork - since Jan 2014 I've only had to tighten up the cable on the rear mech two times (i.e. barrel adjustments...only slight). She covers about 5000km a year, does sportives but doesn't race - I'd imagine racing would be tough enough on any groupset so maybe someone else might weigh in that races...

Have 10spd Force, few years old now and no issue with chain run. Barely touch it maintenance wise and used daily for commuting plus CX racing. The bottom bracket is finally on its way out, but good going considering how much use it's had.

That's interesting. My local bike shop could not sort this issue for me and has been ongoing for a few years now. I bought a new frame and transferred over the groupset and the same thing has resulted. Sick of it now so am going to go for the 11 speed.
    Thanks all for the replies.

Best price I can see is €714 on Ribble. Seems a very good price.

Have had my groupset on 2 frames, going on a 3rd soon. My cassette and chain are now Dura Ace, but swap between 3 sets of wheels with various sizes/brand of cassette and all work well.

Why not try Shimano? Have Dura Ace on my road bike and prefer the shifting. SRAM is a little clunky for my liking.

I'm just a Sram fan I guess. Have Red on my other road bike and it's faultless

Are you properly trimming the front derailleur?

Yep have done everything. Very good bike mechanic in my lbs and he''s at a loss so I'm giving up

We even changed the front mech for a Red yaw one, which according to Sram is fully comparable, and the result was more or less the same

I don't think you should expect to be able to use all 20 gears with no rub. You will typically have an issue using the small chain ring in the front with the smallest sprocket on the back. Likewise you would expect chain run on the front mech when using the big chainring with your two largest sprockets.

Your also advised not to use this gear combination as it puts stress on the chain and the spring in the rear mech. These gears are also pretty much duplicate to other combinations so I don't think you are losing out.

Personally I haven't used the new SRAM but I know it's designed to allow a greater range of years and the rear mech design is also better so isn't under so much pressure when in the big ring and larger rear sprockets.

Very detailed reply and thanks for it. Basically 34/12 and 13 along with 50/27 are non runners. I have no real issue with this as I just use other ratios instead. It's just that I know others who have no chain rub issues

Just wondering are SRAM and Shimano components interchangable? Are the tools for fitting the same?

The only tool i can think of that is not a standard tool (Allen keys etc) is a cassette removal tool and the BB removal tool. GXP and Shimano BB use the same tool, and the cassette use the same tool (At least in my exprience)
