    Car W211 E280
Need to replace all the tyres in the next few weeks but need to change one in the next few days.
Anyone know of any deals in garages (prefearbly North county/North City Dublin) for non ditchfinders?

Was gonna replace the rears with whats on there already - LANDSAIL.
But recently in a spot of heavy rain on the motorway the amount of movement on the road left me feeling uncomfortable and taking off from a standing start they lot grip waaaay to easily.

Landsails are about the worst tyre out there and exactly what you don't want when you say ditchfinders.
    Stick with premium brands.

Yep. The Landsail came on the the car when I bought it last year so wanna get premium decent tyres.

Landsails are utterly atrocious tyres..... In the dry they are probably grand but jn the wet it's a different story.

Keith in Discount Tyres Blanchardstown is excellent. If you are stuck for a ture now, get a part worn fitted for now and get the four done during the week.

Don't know anything about "zetex" tyres but I do know that any tyre that you pay €35 for, can only be sh1te particularly in the wet.

I like the reasoning on this forum

if you slate of a car you are automatically challenged with the response- "have you owned/driven one?"

yet for slating tyre brands its ok to have no personal experience at all, just follow the same common tired arguments you read on the internet.

by that logic alfas are duds, fiats are fix it again tomorrow, VW is the most reliable car etc etc

I have Zetex and drive in the wet and on motorways. I feel 100% safe as I did in any other "premium brand"

Well, reviews come up pretty poor for "Zeetex" particularly in the wet. Have a quick google yourself. Also, while they don't cost much, they are not available for anything like the €35 a corner that you mentioned.

I am glad you're happy and feel safe with them, but I also hope I don't meet you on a corner in the rain!

I won't be putting them on my car anytime soon nor will I be recommending them to anyone I know, out of respect to them and other people they share the road with.

I got a good deal as a favour

think they go for around the 50e mark

Ireland is very small,if you dont encounter me you will encounter many many others who prefer cheap brand tyres. Makes you think doesnt it? how are all these budget tyre driving people on the roads not killing themselves or others?

    Baffling really isnt it?

rain, corners exclamations marks. all we need is a link to a race car expert saying how he prefers the most expensive tyres on race day to make the post complete ;)

Just for clarity: Have Landsail on the rear. When I pull off from a standstill in manual the tyres struggle to hold grip. On the motorway in wet conditions it not a pleasant place. Lots of movement at 100kph. Would not want to be in a position to throw out the anchors with them on.

Because the majority of them doing 80 km/h in the overtaking lane.

Plenty of goid midrange rubber out there.

    Kumho
    Vredistein
    Etc

No need to go full premium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

Yeah I'd give a 5☆ review on Kumho aswell, awesome tyres in all conditions.
I have toyo R1R's now and they'd be the best out there really, the kumho's aren't a million miles off!

225 55 r16 wouldn't be as common as 215. Think 215 55 16 are the most common size tyre, so you might be able to get a set cheaper.

Stay away from landsails anyway, I've nothing good to say about them, pure muck.

Went to change tyres on the mondeo last week and yer man brings out landsails, how I didn't go up the wall I don't know. Cheap rubber is what sells, don't believe when the tyre fitter says they're great, because nine times out of ten they are shyte. Go in and tell them what you're after, instead of them offering you ditchfinders. (That's being general op, you said you're after premium rubber)

Last time I went to a garage I said I want some Hankook Ventus Prime tyres. There were a few guys in the garage, one of them got in his car and was back in 10 minutes with 4 new Hankooks :)

They had a full range of Chinese tyres in stock

Just on chainging the size of the tyres if I went to 215 instead (bearing in mind that all tyres will be changed before next nct) how much difference will it make to the car?
Would it be an issue for nct if 215 isnt specced for the car?

Nope, not a bit. Be wise to have all the same size/profile tyres on for your own sake

Yeah I will be changing the 4 so they will all go to 215.
Seems to be a bit better selection in 215's.

Advance pitstops are doing 4 for the price of 3 on all tyres except for Continental.

    or

For every 2 Continentals you buy you get a free night in a hotel of your choice.

OP I put a set of Hankook Venus Evo's on my 525i Auto which would be equivalent to your E class, I have Evo 2's on the front and 1's on the back. The rears were €180 a corner in 255/40/17 and the fronts were about €135 for 235/45/17. These would be gotten for around I'd say €120 a corner for your car and are very good in the wet and dry, I think I have about 4/5000 miles on them now.

    Nice one. Thanks.
How do you find the noise from them on Motorway drives.
90% of my driving is Mway driving.

Very, very quiet, only did a Cork-Dublin-Cork stint on Thursday and even at higher speeds there's very little, I get more wind noise than tyre roar. On a still day the car is very quiet.

A quick Google looks like the Evo's are not available in 215/225.

I'd still take a look at other Hankook's. They're a good tyre for reasonable money.
