Coolant - Corolla

I have a '07 Corolla saloon and noticed that the coolant is under the low level marked on its tank. It probably is in need of a service but won't be able to get it done for a couple of weeks so wondering can you just buy coolant in the likes of Halfords and top it up? Can you top up the existing stuff or would that need to be drained first? Are there specific coolants I need (the Toyota manual recommends Toyota coolant but guessing that might be just for money making!).

Toyota have their own red coolant. You could add universal coolant, but I would buy some from Toyota rather than mix them. I think they sell it in small packs.

Thanks to you both. Called to the main dealer today and got the coolant for 6 eur! Happy days.

Bit late but couldn't you have just topped up with a little water as it's 50/50 mix anyways isn't it.
