Was looking for a new bike, I'm not exactly a cycling nut so my knowledge is limited (have been cycling a super-heavy low end steel hybrid for the last year or so!) The problem is my budget! Unforeseen circumstances mean I have a lot less than I originally intended to spend. This means I'm looking at bikes in the region of roughly 350-550. I plan on availing of the cycle to work scheme and the above values are before the discount is applied (i.e. I DON'T plan on getting a bike worth 700-1000). So has anybody got any recommendations on a decent hybrid style bike around this price?

I'll pipe in and say I can whole heartedly recommend Halfords Voodoo Marasa.

I've been using it as my daily commute, depending on the routes I take anything from 30km to 50km and its never skipped a beat.

Its got hydraulic disc brakes, which would stop you on a one cent coin.

Its a little on the heavy side compared to my CX/road bike but IMO its a fine bike.

You can get a Trek 7.2FX for €550. Hard to go wrong with one of these,

That Halfords Voodoo Marasa looks decent spec. I'd not heard of that before. Might be good for my own commute.
