XTC Nubia Z9 Max: Issue with Play Store

    Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Nubia Z9 Max direct from the manufacturer in China. The phone arrived rapidly and I'm delighted with its build quality and performance but am having some issues with my Google account on the phone itself. The most annoying of these is that the Play Store continuously insists there is no internet connection!

To give a bit of background. The phone came with the Play Store pre-installed but it wouldn't work and would immediately close if you opened it. I later realised that the problem was that the phone had no way of linking itself to my Google account. I resolved this by using a Google Installer I found on-line. It installed all Google's background app's and allowed me to sync the phone with my Google account (with issues however). Gmail, Maps, etc are now functional.

The Play Store now opens but with a connection error making it impossible to download app's. Ive found a solution to this which allows me to download certain app's directly but I really need the Play Store working to get the most out of the phone.

Id really appreciate any ideas or suggestions you guys may have, thanks very much!

Sometimes issues like this can be resolved by clearing the data of the Play Store app itself.

Settings > Apps (or Applications, not sure what ZTE calls this section) > Scroll across to where the heading says "All" (or something to that effect) > Scroll down until you see "Google Play Store" and select "Clear data"

After clearing the data the next time you open Play Store it will go through the routine of "accepting terms" and so on like when you first get the phone, but don't worry all your other data is safe, it won't harm anything else.

Also any preference in the Play Store app that you previously set will need to be set again (e.g., whether to auto update apps, or placing icon on the homescreen for new apps for example are preferences I always change)

    Hope this helps.

I have tried deleting the cache and starting the app again but it has'nt worked. I emailed XTC and they sent me on a different Google Installer. Problem I'm having now is it can't communicate with Google's servers apparently

No, not the cache. You need to clear the app's data. Cache is different. Is there not another button there for clearing the data?
If, after restarting, the Play Store app didn't ask you to accept the terms and conditions then you didn't clear the data of the Play Store app.

I have done both but to no avail. Not really sure what else to do. I might root it but I'm not too familiar with that and heard I could void the warranty. At the moment its not a major problem, just a little frustrating!

Okay. This is just a thought, but as it is bought direct from China I must ask, is Google Play Services definitely installed on the phone and up to date?
It's just that I'm wondering if there is some kinda vicious circle thing going on. i.e. Play Services needs the Play Store to update but the Play Store needs a newer version of Play Services to work. I know it sounds daft but Play Services can wreak havoc if something goes wrong with it.

You could try side-loading the latest version of each by getting them from Android Police's APKmirror site.

I believe (based on its specs) your phone uses the version of Play Services ending in -438, (you can confirm this yourself by looking at the version in Settings > Apps and get the appropriate version instead if my guess is wrong) in which case http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/google-play-services-7-8-95-2113048-438-android-apk-download/ is the latest version.

The Play Store app is less device specific so this is the latest version http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/google-play-store-5-8-8-android-apk-download/

Those two should work together. If that doesn't get the Play Store going for you I am truly baffled.
    Best of luck with it.

That was originally the problem. Initially only the Play Store add been installed and it would'nt open because the phone lacked any of the other Google applications required such as Play Services. I think I solved this using Google Installer.

Currently I can directly install and use Maps, and Gmail but I'm still getting Connectivity Errors with the Play Store. After installing the links you suggested Play Store is now linked to my Google Account but unable to connect to the internet for some reason. It's all very strange..
