I was in Halfords yesterday and noticed they have a special offer on their own brand motor oil (which is actually mobil oil), at €15 for 4L which is pretty good.

    They have 4 types available

    5w30 Opel/GM
    5w30 Ford
    10w 40 part synthetic
    5w 40 fully synthetic

Although the first 2 are labelled Opel and Ford depending on your cars ACEA requirements they may be ok to use in other brands.

I used Halfords oil for about 3 years and about 12 months ago, I moved to branded Mobil. I'm finding the car is burning about half less with Mobil than the Halfords one.

Buying the Halfords one was grand at the price, but just checking oil levels more often.

There are 2 things you should never skimp on for a car. Tyres and oil!

Its an OK price. Last time I got the 5w40 i requested data sheets and msds it turned out to be comma x-flow oil which comes in 5l containters for about €25 so the real value or 4l is about €20 certainly not the €41.99 halfords fullprice.
