Has anyone else received this in their email yet, seems like a very good deal on the face of it, obviously doesn't go into details about which network they will be operating on or whether they will be offering 4G, still thou for €15 per month its worth a chance.

    They're using the 3 network.

Seems like a fantastic offer. If they're using 3 hopefully they'll get 4G too.

Hoping to get this email soon!

Some offer! Come on email me please...

    Crazy offer.

OP, are you already a UPC customer for tv and BB or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,150 ✭✭✭The Ayatolla

Pity their TV offering is so ****e. I have broadband with them but will be moving that to Sky once my contract is up so I get a bundled deal from Sky.

    Nice!

That was in the making for a long time. Was looking forward to see whatever they were gonna offer. I was expecting quad play for existing upc customers rather than a standalone. I'm still in contract though, otherwise I would have signed up for this already.

I have been waiting for UPC's mobile service for over a year.

Better offer than I was expected, and will sign up as soon as I get an email. If I get one that is.

OP. If you want to forward that email over to me, by all means! lol

I'm a BB and phone customer, no TV package from them, and I haven't received the email from them either, this was forwarded on to me from someone who has. On the sign up page it's asks for your account number so I'm guessing they know which accounts holders have been selected for this deal.

    No reason why it wouldn't.

Unlike other phone companies, UPC will continue their practice of upping their prices annually

Worth the hassle? Not for me. Tescomobile. Same price but with 1GB

    Apt username btw

I think whoever got mail are trialists there would be a massive media campaign if upc were going live with the network

    Me too.
The UPC phone app is quite good, if they tweaked it and integrated it into a phone they could offer a great package so that you only have one number

It's excellent, I was able to use it to pick up home phone calls when using data in the US this Summer...

30GB is very good but I wonder if and how much the 3 network data might be throttled to. I remember before i couldnt live stream on their 3G so switched network.
Currently whats the approx speedtest for the 3 network?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

It really differs. I'm on Three, and using 4G I can get anywhere from 5-10Mbps download (and similar upload speeds), but sometimes can get far more.
The 3G networks differs also, and I don't get the same speeds as the 4G network, obviously.

However, I've been trying iD Mobile on the Three network as a trial user and I've been getting 14Mbps download on the 3G network of the aforementioned.

Three speeds differ and they seem to allocate space accordingly.

Put it this way, its a Frankenstein network. It can go anywhere on the scale from excellent to WTF.

1GB of data is a pitiful amount.

    33MB a day!

Depends on what you do with your phone. I'm on wifi most of the time and 1GB of data is sufficient for me.

And by that stage a new offer will be around no doubt, you cannot compare tescomobile deal to UPC's cos they are not the same, not even close, data is more important to customers these days than texts or minutes IMO

It depends how much access you have to WIFI

And your usage profile of your phone

The offer has no relevance to wifi, yes a lot of people are on wifi regularly but 1gb data compared to unlimited there is no contest, phone companies don't care about minutes and texts they are making money off data when users go over their limits. This offer is unreal and I'll be amazed if you'll see anything better anywhere

Wonder how they selected the users to email - Horizon customer who has asked about this before and I've had nothing

Similar situation as yourself, filled in surveys about mobile, could just be a slow roll out, would expect more invites to be sent out in the next couple of weeks

How often you are on wifi is relevant and unlimited data for €15 pm vs 1GB data for €10 pm is a contest if you use less than 1GB data pm. I am on wifi for 23 out of the 24 hours of the day most days and only use about 500mb data pm. Why would I pay an extra €5 pm for something that I won't use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,432 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

UPC Mobile using their Horizon WiFree networks to offload data? Possibly.

    But probably not.

What use is unlimited, when you use less than 1Gb?
48months 10 euro deal will still suit more people, you cal always by an additional Gb for 3 euro on the odd occasion that you go over your limit.

Its not comparable to ANY current mobile deal as its only available to select UPC customers through e mail invite,so not a bargain at the moment IMO

Mgiht give them a ring and see if they will offer it to me.

Have full package with them, wouldn't mind that mobile offer.

PAying €25-30 to Meteor a month for free calls texts and 1 GB data.

If you don't use 1GB it is irrelevant

Saying the work unlimited over and over doesn't make it more useful

While the deal is very good, remember to ask if this locks you into a 12month contract. My guess is a new contract for your entire bundle.

    Something to keep in mind.

Might be for the trial but my mail said this:

If you are eligible for this offer and sign-up when we call you, this plan is FREE until 18th October 2015. From the 19th October, 2015, the price of €15 per month will continue to apply until 1st September, 2016. UPC reserves the right to amend the price after this date by providing at least 30 days notice in writing to you.

Right, but that is just a price guarantee surely? No mention of contract length in there?

I guess it depends how you read it. But I interpreted the line below to mean that you would be tied down for a year.
