Valuation of land.

Hi all

We are looking to buy land in co Galway Connemara region with the intention of starting a smallholding. We have seen a few places we like but would like to know the price of land per acre. Who would be the person/department to ask about land prices & quality of the land?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

The price of the land would be heavily dependent on where it was. I don't know of any indication of the quality of farmland, perhaps the farming forum could help with that.

I understand that in different areas the value of land would vary ie green pastures to hilly mountain scrub.
I guess what I'm trying to find is a person/dept who would be able to assess & value land.

Land is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it - a neighbouring farmer might be willing to pay more for poor land

Local auctioneers would be a place to start - just remember that they are generally acting for the seller.
