    Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are currently looking into travelling options for next year and are completely clueless as to the costs involved. Neither of us have ever done anything like this before (both late twenties). We both work in professional jobs (IT & Pharmaceuticals) and would like to travel for around 3 - 4 months and end up in a Country that would allow us to get work in these sectors and settle there for a year or so before moving on again.

We are interested in both South East Asia and South America but haven't decided. Our budget is looking like around 10k each.

We have talked about the following options:
3/4 months in SE Asia - on to Australia
3/4 months in South America - on to Australia
3/4 months in South America - on to Canada

Which is the best option here on a budget?
Are we budgeting anywhere near enough money?

From what I've read so far I think it will cost much more but would love to hear peoples options who have done something similar..

    Thanks in advance!

€10k each is loads. But it's a bit like saying "How much does it cost to live in Ireland for a year?" Varies wildly depending on if you drink/go sky diving/ live in Dublin.

In South America I spent €1k a month the first time, and then almost €2k a month in Central America the next time I went. The 2nd time I did every trip going. For Asia you could easily live on 1k a month, and pay for the international flight and then have some left over to pay deposit on a place in Australia.

Personally I'd do Central America then Canada. South is great but lots of weather changes so you need to pack more and long bus rides.
Check if you can work for a whole year in Aus on the holiday visa, not sure what the rules are now.
