Do I need to be 'named driver' on my partener car insurance?

We bought a new car, and I just passed the theory test.
I'd like to make most of the practice on this new car.
Does my partner need to have me as named driver on the car insurance?
Or since I'll be accompanied by her on my driving practice I don't need to be a named driver (but still somehow covered by the insurance)?

You need to be named and pay additional money to be included and covered in your partner's policy. You need your learner permit before you can be added to their policy

Yes, you need to be on the policy to drive the car. As Mascot has said, you will need your licence first - they will probably ask for a photocopy of the licence, as well as your driver number over the phone.

May be true in this case, since the OP is a learner - but it's not always the case. Adding named drivers can often be for free, or even result in a discount.

Yeah, my reply was directly relating to the OP. No chance they'll be put on a policy for free or with a small admin fee.

Believe it or not with, at the time, 21 years full licence experience, claim free for 18 years AND myself being an ADI my girlfriend's insurers wanted more to put me on the policy. Mental

Sanity doesn't seem to enter the equation.
One company refused to quote me for my personal car on account of my being an ADI, whilst at the same time covering me for my ADI policy.

unbelievable surely they should want to cover a driving instructors personal car as their livelihood is roadcraft and safe driving

i think i can beat that, had my father as a name driver on the policy and he had a small claim on his own policy last year. full protection so no change to his policy but mine went up to keep him on renewal.
It actually reduced my insurance (from just me) to put on a limited, fully comp open drive-which my father can use as he is under the claim threshold of 10k. The other stipulations was clean license and age 30-75. Id need to check but assume its full license, but you never know maybe of some use to you OP (allianz)
