Nervous about new job assessment

    Hi there,

    I recently got a very god job in a successful organisation in my industry. After a few interview rounds I was chosen as the successful candidate.

    Afterwards I underwent assessment tests which included online, written and verbal tests. One of these tests were just about my work ethic and what kind of worker I am. However 2 of the 3 were about analytical problem solving and the likes. Noticing patterns working with huge numbers etc.

    The man who handled these examinations said they do not affect my placement in the position more of an assessment for what the business can expect from me.

    However I am now really nervous about starting as I don't think I did too well under the pressure of some of the problem solving exams. I work in a very creative field so I have never encountered something like this before and never expected to in my career.

    Had I known the exams would have been like this before I accepted the job I would have inquired if the role suited me or if I could perform to exactly what they needed. Now I'm just left stressing that everything I do will be a reflection of those exams. More so I'm anxious that they'll now regret hiring me and the working relationship will start off toxic.

    has anyone else had to do these sort of assessments and were they a reflection of what you had to deal with in the workplace/what was expected of you?

    To be honest, I think they do those assessments as more of a formality than anything else. I did one in a previous job and it was forgotten about soon after.

    Every new role in your career has a learning curve,try not to stress! Wishing you the best of luck

    Relax, its only to manage their expectations so that they dont put you doing stuff that you are totally not suited to.

    They could withdraw the job offer if they wanted and they havent so youre good to go.

    I've done them. It's just to see where your strengths and weaknesses are so they can provide you with the right support and not give you tasks you wont be able for. So if you struggle with something and might need to work on it in future they can mentor you in that area or send you on a course etc. It's not to catch you out, it's to help in the areas you may need and not to waste time/money teaching you things you're already good at.
