    Hi folks,

Any thoughts on 1.6 or 2.0D registered in 2011 or 2012? I currently have a 2.0 407 diesel. Just a bit concerned that the 1.6 is really weak compared to the 2.0.

What should i be expecting to pay for a

    Highline 1.6 2011 ? 17,000
    Highline 2.0 2011 ? 19-20,000 ?

    Highline 1.6 2012 ? 19-20000 ?

    Thanks,

    Paul

2.0 TDi all day long. With motor tax rate similar on both engine sizes and price gap getting smaller as they get older there really isn't any reason to chose the smaller engine in a car that size.

it's just harder to find a 2.0L....there's millions of 1.6L's out there :(

Unfortunately that is due to the Irish way of thinking, buying the smallest engine available for da cheapest tax.

What budget do you have? Is importing one from the UK an option? You might not save money with the exchange rate but you will at least have a better choice of getting what you want?

Is the CC an option? There are a good few of them about these days and all are 2.0 TDi. They are also more handsome than the regular Passat.

There are 135 2011-2012 Passat 2.0TDIs on Carzone at the moment (compared to 266 1.6TDIs)

So they aren't exactly a scarce commodity :pac:

Price will depend on lots of factors but the main ones are the mileage and the source (main dealer or independent)

The prices you are quoting would be very much at the high end of the scale, so should get you a very low mileage car from a VW dealer.

We currently have a one owner 2011 2.0TDI DSG with 138,000km on it advertised for €16500 just for comparison. I'd imagine there are cheaper ones out there as well.

I'm looking at max 20000 with hopefully getting 5000 for my own... I'll have another look.... I'm trying to get one with max 65,000 miles on it.. and I'm looking for a highline version.. prob narrows it down to only a handful for the price :(

All you need is one! Just be patient. There should be loads of Passats in the pipeline over the next few months coming back from the lease companies.

Have you driven a 1.6TDI? Or a 2.0TDI for that matter?

    What are you driving currently?

driving a Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI at the moment... took a passat 1.6 for a drive and it was missing that take off speed, felt really sluggish :(

Yes if you are used to a bit of power it will be difficult to go back to the 1.6TDI. They are adequate for most people but are certainly lacking the punch you would be used to with the 2.0HDI.

If I was in your position and couldn't get a decent 2.0TDI Highline within budget then I would be looking to get a nice 2.0TDI Comfortline rather than a 1.6TDI Highline. In my opinion the gap between Comfortline and Highline is less with the B7 Passat than it was with the B6.

    What year is your 407?

ah that is a lovely yoke but the mileage a little too high on it :( is there much trouble with passats as the mileage goes over 100,000..

i usually get a car around 60,000m and then sell on around 120,000 m...my current one is 135,000km

I would happily sacrifice those bits in favour of an extra 35bhp :D

Your car with 135,000km and assuming it is in good condition is worth €6-6500 on a trade in IMO. What kind of offers have you been getting?

Your average 2011 properly driven diesel car is going to have between 70k and 80k miles on them at this stage. A 2011 car is now heading towards 5 years old now so that mileage would not be unusual.

found a 2011 2.0 69,0000 miles highline all for 16,000 which looks a bargain... its a dealership in Dublin and has a six month warranty.. too good to be true ?
Prob looking at the clutch going in this pretty soon down the line ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,363 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

    Why do you think that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭cerebis

Just most of the others with the year, spec and mileage are trading from 18-19k .. just thinking it could be too good to be true

Have you a link to the advert? Usually if something is way cheaper than similar then it's cheap for a reason.
