I did two interviews this week, the second being on Friday the 24th. The same day they rang me asking me to start on Monday the 27th but I don't even have a bank account setup? I was planning on doing it the Monday, expecting at least a few working days notice before asking me to start but obviously not. Can I show up on Monday without bank details and tell them i'll get it to them asap?

If course you can. Depending on the bank you want to open with you could pop out during lunch to set up the account once you have the correct documents with you.

Could a parent set it up on my behalf with my documentation if I was unable to get there myself? I'm recently 18.

No. It's your account, so you have to be present to sign the paperwork.

As an alternative - Can you arrange for your pay to go into your parent's account until you get sorted?

I would assume so if needs be, the longest i'll leave it is a week or two but if lunch provides me enough time i'll make my way to the bank and set it up. Thanks.

You will require proof of address and proof of identification. Bring more than one of each just in case. Also it can be very difficult to get to talk to a real person at a bank. Might be useful to get a parent to pop in that morning and make a lunchtime appointment for you. I recently had to change bank accounts and didn't realise any of this!! It was a nightmare.

    Well done on the job!

unless you're paid weekly, they wont need your bank details on day 1. you might want to ask when payday is on Monday morning.

Paid every two weeks so should be alright.
