Sushi ingredients?

    Hi folks,

Hoping someone can help me out. Looking for the ingredients for sushi in Waterford and not sure where to start. Tescos don't seem to have wasabi, pickled ginger or sushi rice judging by their website so was just wondering if anyone on here makes their own.

I know you can get pre made sushi in ardkeen but there's not enough of the type of sushi I prefer in their ones and also a distinct shortage of wasabi!

    Thanks in advance

    Try here http://www.thewasabicompany.co.uk/buy-wasabI

Or use horseradish instead. My be try the Asian shops like the one on the quay.

Isn't there a sushi company somewhere close to the City?

    Possibly Dunhill or somewhere.

    Might be worthwhile contacting them.

You have to sign in to Tesco.ie to get the stock list for Ardkeen.

    Wasabi paste (v. strong!)

    Rice.

As far as I can remember they are in aisle 32.

They have wasabi and ginger for sure. Poleberry also has wasabi.

I buy mine in Spice World on The Quay. There's special section with Asian/Japanese/Chinese food. They are always fresh and sushi is delicious.

Cheers I actually got the sushi rice in there because they were sold out in Tesco. Got the Wasabi and Pickled Ginger in Tesco though.

Next question for a budding sushi chef is where would I get sushi quality fish in Waterford? I assume I can get it in any fishmongers but not sure which is best.

Is hoping for eel in Waterford to make unagi too ambitious?

Can't help you there. I always use good quality smoked salmon, which is not quite right for real sushi.
I think any fishmongers would do for quality fish.
