I heard an RV-7 talking to Dub Fis this afternoon. Not sure if it was him.

Bad month for aviation in Ireland with so many accidents lately.

    RIP

    I'm hearing it was possibly a BD5.

Took a spin over but you can't really get a good view of aircraft from the road.

Blocked by coast guard and emergency services.

The Irish Coastguard helicopter Rescue 117 is assisting and remains at the scene.

It’s believed Shannon Air Control received a mayday call from the aircraft earlier this evening.

The aircraft is believed to have left Waterford on route to Shannon via Ardmore. It’s believed the pilot reported there was a fire on board and the plane was experiencing elevator problems before crashing.

The fire brigade were alerted and remain at the scene this evening.

It’s believed the aircraft was going to the Foynes Air Show which is being held tomorrow in Limerick.

Some pics on RTE link also but not very close

    A vans aircraft?
Please don't let it be EI-HUM, if it is I will seriously be upset...

I always admired that BD5, a beautiful aircraft. Very sad news.

Mini Air-show in Ardmore Co Waterford this evening as part of local festival. Meant to feature three planes - incl a Vans RV-7 - only two planes did the display at 7pm .... won't mention any names here ... assume now that this is the reason only two turned up .... very sad. Condolences to the pilot's family.

    According to liveATC shannon TWR/Approach archive it's EI-DNN. 17:40gmt onwards. EINN 251700Z 19015KT 9999 -RA FEW019 SCT047 BKN070 15/10 Q1014 NOSIG
"november november, your transmissions are very weak"
"golf november india you called (inaudible)"
"india delta november november go ahead again"
"roger are you going back to waterford?"
"echo india delta november november report number of souls on board?"

    http://www.liveatc.net/archive.php

then at approx 17:52 onwards you hear shannon query EI-HUM five times. Eventually they state that theres traffic 3 miles orbitting unknown altitude. Not sure if thats in anywhere even near Waterford, most likely not unless it' was taking part in the flyby. this is followed by 2 different controllers, male and female repeatedly querying EI-HUM over and over again, to which they seem to eventually reply.

RTE reporting that the aircraft was due to display at the Foynes airshow tomorrow but that his family have requested no postponement/cancellation. I've seen EI-DNN at displays before, always a very interesting craft just by its rarity and looks.

    RIP to the pilot.

it passed over my house this evening , it makes a very distinct sound when flying which caused me to look up and watch it fly past. It also done the tramore prom festival air show a few weeks.
    poor guy may he rip

Not much of the plane left at all, just a small bit before final impact. Was in the are for some time before it happened.

One ball of smoke and fire was out before fire services arrived.

    Terrible news.
Without doubt the most spectacular private aircraft I have seen. And very well flown too.
    R.I.P.

From Rescue 117's FB page: "It is with much shock and sadness that we report the fact that pilot Howard Cox died tragically yesterday evening when his stunt plane, the James Bond BD5 crashed on a routine flight from Waterford to Shannon. Just three weeks ago Howard was part of the professional airshow team that wowed audiences at The Promenade Festival here in Tramore. Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends and fellow pilots."
