Hi there your help would be greatly appreciated. I've got a Peugeot 307 04 car and it seems to be overheating when I stop car for few mins at traffic lights or parking up.
On long drives it's grand. Anyone know or had this prob before, anything I could do myself to check

have you open the bonnet and checked coolant level?

If bottle is low or empty top it up. If that solves problem check for the next few days that there's coolant in the bottle. If it keeps losing coolant could be radiator damage or head gasket gone. Might not be worth fixing latter.

    The fan at radiator

the fan in cabin won't make any real difference to engine temperature.

Where does the temperature gauge go to when it overheats?

Sounds more like a radiator problem to me, try flushing it and see if it makes it better.
They do block up over time.

Bring it to a mechanic before it takes the head gasket

I'm useless when it comes to cars, where is the fan for radiator to turn on?

Go to your fuse box and look for the fuse for the radiator fan. Either that or the fan switch is acting up. Check basic stuff first.

You say that it seems to be overheating. What is it doing? Is the gauge rising? Is there steam coming from under bonnet?

Run the engine for 10 mins. Stand with the bonnet open and check to see if the fan in front of the radiator comes on. It should start to suck in cold air to keep the engine cool. If the fan doesn't come on then your engine will overheat.

Gauge rises when I'm stopped at lights or parking for few mins. Once goin then it's grand.

Get the radiator fan checked - have seen a few seize up on some cars . It could have been noisy for a while and now doesn't work at all.
Bring the car for a drive to warm it up ( temp gauge at normal ) then when you stop - in your driveway - leave car running , lift bonnet , watch gauge and as it rises see if the fan attached to the radiator comes on.
If not could be seized fan or faulty switch .
If you find yourself stuck in traffic and gauge rising - turn heater to HOT and put fan/blower to highest speed (maybe open the windows to let the hot air out). This can help to take some heat from the engine .
Not very comfortable I know but better than an overheated (and possibly damaged engine ).

    Hey,

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem currently with my 307.
It's the latest in a long list of things going wrong with it and I'd like to know if you got this sorted and was it a big job to get fixed?
Contemplating changing cars at this point if this is a major issue.
    Thanks! :)
