I wonder is the announcement a scheduled one, or is it an unsceduled Big News event?

It's worthwhile mentioning that even if an "earth like" planet was discovered, this would only mean that a planet of roughly earth's size was found orbiting a star not unlike our sun at a distance similar to our distance from the sun in the so called golidlocks (not too hot, not too cold) region.

It would only be pure conjecture that there was life on this planet, becase kepler cannot detect that.

Mind you when I was young I was told that individual planets would never be detectable around distant stars, so discoveries and space science move on all the time.

they're changing the name of Uranus, to Urectum?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

Think the official PR is due out 17:00hrs BST (23rd July)

2/1 Earth like planet somewhere 'too far away to imagine or even visually represent using paper sketches'
5/1 Asteroid on the way in September, as foretold by some random religious cult chap on the utubes.
9/1 (2012) planet Niribu (think that's how it's spelt) is tad late arriving, but now just behind Jupiter.

If it does, it would negate the possibility of there being intelligent life present.

I remember hearing something about NASA possibly having the ability to identify the atmospheric composition of these exoplanets, if they can pick up on traces of pollution similar to what we have on Earth, it could point to an industrial civilization. Not sure if they can even do this on near objects yet though.

    Of course it's nothing!

If it was scientifically important or life changing, Morgan Freeman would appear on my TV from the White House.

He would tell me humanity is great, most of us will die but to be good boys and girls until either the aliens come to probe us or the big rock is coming to squish us.

I have good information from a normally reliable source deep...deep,...deep with the NASA Organisation, that they've found a new habitable Planet, (NASA call it R/21/3334a) a virtual Paradise where it's summer all year round and not really that far from Earth, being just outside our Solar System.

On the upside, the place is lightly populated due to a scarcity of males, but on the downside, all the females are either Twink or Sinead O' Connor lookalikes.

R/21/3334a was discovered in the late 1960s when radio messages were received, but kept very secret.

In the past weeks television pictures were beamed from the Planet, and those will arrive to our screens tomorrow, just before noon, thus forcing NASA to 'come clean' and tell us the truth at last.

Fair enough some moons are bigger, but damn it Mercury is heavier which is why it has a bigger effect on horoscopes.

No it's just a Plutino. For every 2 orbits that a plutino makes, Neptune orbits 3 times. So it's kinda like a mad weird orbit around Neptune.
