I've a pair of Sidi Genius 5 fit shoes and the leather in one is creaking at the middle strap... its driving me nuts! I've tried vaseline to see if it will soften it up but no joy. Does anyone have any solutions to this?

Buy a tin of saddle soap in a saddlers/equestrian supplies. They're about a tenner. Dip a clean sponge in hot water and wring it out as much as you can (you want it barely damp so the soap doesn't lather) then use it to rub a little soap into both sides of the the strap to soften it. It will also remove the vaseline and any dirt/stains/grit without damaging the leather and keep it in good nick. You may need to repeat it 2 or 3 times (let it dry naturally between applications) if the leather is very dry/stiff.

I bought a tin for my sister recently who went from being very dubious about putting anything to do with a horse on her nice leather handbag to anointing all her shoes, belts and bags with it!

    olive oil

Vaseline acts as a barrier, its not easily absorbed.
