Looking for a new pair of shoes. Looking for something stiff, will be race only, ideally with boa fastners. Budget up to about 150. Was looking at Bont shoes, but see mixed reports. Any recomendations? Thanks!

got a pair of fizik R5B's for racing in june and they were great, good for long narrow feet.. unfortunately the little rubber heel grip fell off completely last week only 7 weeks into their life so im awaiting a response from chain reaction re replacement.. other than that they're a great shoe.. probs about 20 quid over your budget though

I'm using northwave torpedo plus. Really comfy. Can't fault them. I've gone through multiple pairs of shoes in the last 2 years as I struggle to find them wide enough.

Personally I would pay the extra and buy Sidi - I have a pair that have lasted for 7-8 years (used approx twice a week) and they're still perfect. I just use shoe covers when there's any chance of rain and that keeps them looking like brand new!

Same as yourself Lenny I'm looking for something at the moment but i want a full carbon sole, not a carbon nylon hybrid composite. Trying to keep it sub €200 if I can but it's proving very difficult. Wanted the Fizik R3B but can't find them at that price in my size. They're €199 on some of the German websites.

I have went through the shoe search recently. I really wanted a pair of SIDI carbon vernice, but they just refused to fit my feet in any size I tried. I tried Fizik R3Bs and instantly knew they were the shoes I wanted. Like wearing a pair of slippers. However, the point I am trying to make is that SIDI, Fizik etc might be the best shoes in the world but they need to fit your foot properly.

I have tried pretty much all the major brands over the years and pretty much only use Bont shoes now.

They do not suit everyone though but can be easily moulded ( I have only needed to do this on one pair others have fitted straight out of the box).

I wouldn't dismiss them until you had actually tried a pair on.

Would definitely be a huge Bont fan. I ride their el chepo a-three model which have fiberglass soles and they only cost €100, I find they offer the best power transfer I've ever experienced in a road shoe regardless of price..

They also come in half sizes and are available in three width fittings..It's just sooo nice to be able to spread ones toes out a little while cycling, I'm never going back to pointy toes cycling shoes again...

Lots of people are shocked when the first try on a pair of Bont's for the first time, as they will initially feel like clogs..

The only downside is that the build quality is pretty poor by comparison to say a Shimano or Sidi cycling shoe..

How do Bonts size re their sizing chart? Is it accurate?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭Juan More Time

Have previously ridden in specialized s-works size 42 (The shoe last length on these was 270mm) And Nike cycling shoes size 42.5 USA size 9 (last length 270mm)

The Bont size wizard suggested size 42.5, (last length 268mm) but when they arrived I found them extremely tight even with thin racing socks.

I now ride Bont size size 43 (last length 272mm) and find they fit perfectly..

    Hope this helps..

im normally a 9, but the bont site suggests I get a 6.5.......

    Are bont sizes completely mad?

I'm a 10 regular shoes and using the Bont size chart I've bought 44.5 - which is 10. Sure you've measured properly? I don't know if they'll fit yet, they should arrive tomorrow.

which size chart did you use. feet are about 255 mm by 105 ish, but if any ladies are reading, they are 600 by 200.

What shops would you recommend that have a good selection of shoes and various brands to try on. I know its hard for a shop to have all ranges, brands and sizes, but I find most of the bike shops have a poor selection of race shoes. I wouldn't be the type to try them on, then go home and buy online either.
