I see the latest version of the shimano tiagra group set has hit the shops, looks nice with options in black and similar look to the more expensive groupsets, it's now the only group set too come as a triple except for Sora, I have a triple 105 setup which is no longer produced.

Wondering if anyone has the 4700 tiagra and how does it compare? I'm thinking I'll swap over to tiagra on what will be my winter bike at some stage. Though that being said there's feck all price difference between the new new 105 group set and the new tiagra. 40 quid I think.

havent ridden it but for Tiagra its without its best incarnation yet!
crank similar to new 11 speeds..
    as are the shifters.
    looks great- id buy.

Price point is too close to the 105s though. 406 vs 460 on chain reaction. Will wait a few months and see if it drops.

The new Tiagra groupset is 406 euro for 10 speed.
The 105 5800 groupset is 464 euro for 11 speed.
Presumably 105 is a better quality than Tiagra.
It seems to me, that 105 5800 is much better value.

Yeah good point. It's annoying though that they won't be making a 105 triple anymore so will have to upgrade to an 11 speed and double at some point or downgrade to the tiagra if I want to stick with a triple, though to be fair I've only dropped into the granny ring the odd time, up around Sally gap and that . There's still a few 105 triples for sale but don't need to swap out for awhile yet.

I think the reason tiagra has been upgraded and smartened up I'd imagine is to satisfy the needs of people who ave 10 speed "fleets"
If you have only 10 speed compatible wheels the 105 isn't such great value...

Actually never thought about that, my back wheel ( fulcrum 7) probably wouldnt support an 11 speed cassette so rules out the 105 5800 and the 105 5700 which will be phased out probably isn't much different to the new tiagra 4700.

If anything I'd say the new 4700 is better than he 5700 as it as trickle down from the 11 groupos
And speaking from experience the 11 speeds are the finest shimano have made from a use ability standpoint
Reliability and durability has to be proven however!!!

Do you have a spacer on along with the cassette? If so then 11spd cassette will fit no problem.

I did see a really thin metal ring last time I took off the cassette, seemed very thin to be a spacer, I was expecting something the thickness of a cog ?!

Nah, doesn't need to be anywhere near that thick, as the sprockets/sprocket spacings on 11 speed are all slightly thinner than those on 10 speed, so the cassette overall is only slightly wider than a 10 speed one (presumably taking a full 10% off each sprocket/gap would have been making them too thin or closely spaced).

Yeah it's only slightly wider than 1mm, chances are your wheels will take an 11spd cassette. How old are they? I had 2012 Fulcrum Quattros that took an 11spd cassette.

That is the dilemma with bikes anyway, there is always a better option just a bit more expensive.

Yeah that's right, was just 1mm or there abouts. I think it's 2011/2012.y

I won't be changing for while but will probably pop into a shop that has the new group set and see if I can try them out .

I have the new 105 5800. It looks lovely and is very smooth.

Yeah the other half has the 5800 , much smoother than the 5700s I have.

I have an entry level alu bike - B'twin triban 3. Any advise on whether to upgrade bike or upgrade groupset and wheels. I could put on the new Tiagra groupset and maybe fulcrum 5 wheels for about 600 yoyos. The alternative would be a new bike for 1200 or so.
I am not a racer and cycle 150km per week and do the odd short sportive.
And I am far too long in the tooth to be worried about have a cool looking bike.
