Psychology career questions

I am thinking on studying psychology as a second career, I am 30 years old.I would like to talk people through their problems and help people but salary would also be important to me.

    I have some questions:

Can a clinical psychologist provide counselling?
What are the hours like 9-5, weekends, shifts?
What is the difference between the psyd vs phd routes?
Is the PHD route better than the PsyD I want to work in a clinical setting?
Do Psychologists see people in A&E?
Is there much overtime and evening work?
Is this a good job for a meticulous person?

This thread, in the stickied threads, will be useful to you. Psychology is at the end of the Counselling/Psychotherapy fields.

    1. Can a Clin Psych provide counselling? Maybe, depends on the training, might need additional training.

    2. What are the hours like 9-5, weekends, shifts? Generally 9-5.

    3. What is the difference between the psyd vs phd routes? PsyD is a professional qualification, PhD is an academic qualification.

    4. Is the PHD route better than the PsyD I want to work in a clinical setting? No. The PsyD is the professional qualification.

    5. Do Psychologists see people in A&E? Generally, no. There are Liason Psychiatrists and Liason Psychiatric Nurses who work there.

    6. Is there much overtime and evening work? No.

    7. Is this a good job for a meticulous person? Well, your record keeping will have to be meticulous. You will need to know how to apply theories and hypotheses to a real-life situation.
