Since last spring I've ordered some amount of tags.
I often wondered so I look suspicious the amount I buy for the amount of cattle I have. ?

So far this year I have had to order 17 tags from a full herd of about 130ish. Some joke!!

We had a serious problem with replacement tags in calves (up to 6 months)in 2013. From memory 37 out of 278 calves bought in. Not ripped out of the ear but tags opening/falling out. No major issue this year as we haven't reared as many calves as normal due to high prices.

I think last year was worse but that doesn't say much for this hear yet . Mullinahone are a joke with their ****ty tags . Paying for a faulty product and the postage is not on . Is there an ombudsman for this kind of thing?

There's plenty doin the sheep tags, there's hardly much more needed for the cattle tags

Definitely found the bvd tags were falling out a lot this yr in calves, so much so that I thought my tagger was at fault.

I used do that as well but there was some glitch with my account when ordering replacement tags this year which i couldn't get sorted till last month.

I had to order 46 tags!

And got a letter from the Dept querying why i had to order so many so i directed them back to Mullinahone and their IT section for an explanation.

Noticed 2 more missing this evening:mad:

the bvd tags that were issued in the start were faulty and falling out for no reason, mullinahone are replacing these free of charge, when you ring for repacements tell them that it is the white tag that fell out,

I sent away for 4 in Mondays post. How quick are they at getting them back? One lad is missing the round bvd tag as well does that need replacing????

But are you not replacing poor quality tags with new poor quality tags?

Would you not be better getting the black backed tags which will stay much longer?

if you are getting replacements are you not getting the blackones:confused: bvd tags have the white bit on them and sample part, wouldnt be needed as replacements iykwim

first few years farming tag replacement was 5% approx of total stock, mostly in young 3 - 9month old calves

    one year 0%

and went yesterday morning for a look and I may go find the tagger and order about 10 tags, mostly this years calves. Lucky as all calves have at least one so want to do them now

Do yez ever find the missing tags out in the fields? The few that we found looked as if they were bitten of by another cow. Anybody els notice that?

All the time, they make handy keyrings. It's a tiny rip/tear or fault which pulls apart over time or under stress.
It does look quite like a rough bite alright!
