I bought my mother a 98 Saab convertible 900 S last year. I spent €1,100 on it and another €500 getting it ready for the NCT. A crazy purchase I know but it was/is her dream car and after being diagnosed with cancer I wasn't going to get in the way of her vision of spinning to the beach in her fav car with tunes up, top down and New Foundland slobbering. I travelled from Kinsale to Bantry by bus and took it for a test drive, it drove like a dream but needed some TLC (bushings, breaks, etc.) and a new a new motor for the roof, it could be put down manually but really you needed two people and a list of step by step instructions! He had it up on done deal for €1300. It had only 56 thousand miles so I impulsively paid after knocking the price down a little.

All was going well until it failed the NCT on some broken bulb, they didn't mind the roof not working or the small gap where the roof connects to the body above the boot, but in the course of getting fixed, an airbag warning light has emerged and it failed again on that. I had to get my mum another replacement car while it all got fixed. The Saab "Specialist" near Riverstick didn't want to waste his or his mechanics time on it. It has been locked away in a friends warehouse for six months now. And my mum wants her dream car back.

A friend of hers in the UK says he would be able to get it ship shape easily, but first I want to check here before I spend more money on driving it over on the ferry to Devon and then flying back. I want to ask people if they know of someone mechanically and electrically minded that can fix the warning light and roof motor (which apparently works fine, it just needs to be connected and calibrated. I will drive it anywere in Ireland to a mechanic who could fix it. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Seb

There are several SAAB specialists in Ireland so there shouldn't be a need to take it across the water to UK.

Thanks, have tried the Cork Saab specialist "FM autos", out by 5 mile, these are the guys that didn't have the time for the job, they're more into trading in fairness. So still putting the feelers out there...
