Which Roast / Ground Coffee?

So I have been an instant coffee drinker for a long time... current favourite is the Nescafe Azera Americano. I fancied branching out and trying some 'Gourmet' coffee, so I purchased a Cafetiere at the weekend and some 'Tesco Finest Guatemalan' roast and ground coffee (see image). I wasn't impressed with it.

Can anyone recommend a Roast/Ground coffee to me?

I don't have a very refined palette but know when I like something.

I've been impressed with super valu own brand coffee, less than 4 Euro a bag.

At a little more of a premium, you could look at any of the "new" irish roasters to try theirs. 3fe in Dublin, baobab in Celbridge, there's roasteries in Carrick on Shannon, cork, all over the place. Bailies in the north is a good spot too.

It also depends a little on how you're making it, whether its filter, espresso, aeropress etc. and any of the suppliers mentioned will be helpful I'm sure if you were to ask them, telling them you use a cafetiere!

i quite like roberts roberts 5/4 strength, i'd probably be like yourself flavour wise. i tend to stick to the rougher roasts because they have less caffeine in them so I never developed the fancy schmancy coffee palette of proper coffee drinkers

    bewleys 5/4 is also grand.

It's worth going to a coffee shop where you like the coffee and buying 250g of beans ground for cafetiere.

And make sure you are using enough coffee for the amount of water you're using.

You definitely should get a better tasting coffee that you get from instant.

    Best of luck! :)
