    Hi guys
Was wondering if I was to buy a 4g modem a one with Ethernet ports and buy a prepay sim with three, top up with €20 a month pop sim in modem and get all you can eat data! I know on their website it says it's not permitted but would they actually notice and knock you off the network? Has anybody any luck doing this?
Maybe I have posted this in the wrong place also sorry wasn't sure where to post it!

    Thanks

    It's really 15 GB/month

They have no way of knowing you're using it like you intend, just don't tell them.

I'm personally on an old contract, my bill says I have 2 TB of data/month, I have my phone connected to my PC via USB waiting on my phone line to go active the past 19 days.

It's sad that in a 'good' month I'd go through 2TB. :pac:

I've gone WAY over 15GB on that plan without any problem. Have downloaded 5 Gig files in one go. That would be all of vodafones 5gb allowance gone.
Also ,they do have a way to know if your tethering to your laptop or desktop and their are specific apps that you can use to circumvent that. Foxfi is the one I use.

Anyway the OP asked if you can put one of the three sim cards into a wi-fi dongle and use it that way. Rather than doing it through a mobile phone. I want to know the answer to this too please. Will it work?

Yeah it's a soft limit, in that they'll only act if people complain in the area.
I've never seen or heard of it happening though.

    How can they tell?

That's nice for you. That's an expensive router. I was thinking of one of half fist sized yokes that can run on an internal battery. There still around the 60 euro mark too though I see.

There prolly a few ways they can tell but one way I've heard of is if there sending you the desktop version of a webpage as opposed to the mobile version they can detect it that way.

chrome browser on android supports always going to desktop sites.

Nothing they do can be reliable, so arguable.

I'm discounting spyware they install on their phones of course.

I was on prepay with three recently and my three said I had 2tb as well.

Unfortunately for me though even with 3 or 4 bars of 3G it would rarely work or be very slow.

Aren't their web pages you can go too that can tell you what operating system your on. Lemme check.

    http://www.thismachine.info/

That info is available somehow. In my case I'm on Windows 7 and that couldn't be on my mobile phone. Anyway who knows what ways they could know but i'd agree it's getting more difficult for them to find out.

Don't be so pessimistic. 3 know what ppl get up to with their data service. I'm sure they'd rather keep you as a customer. It's all income.

Now I'm off to watch a move on xbmc : ) nite.

They can use the User-agent to see what browser you're using. Of course there are ways to fake it but that would catch most people.

There are also things like connecting to microsoft windows update server, your phone would not do that.

And I'm sure many other ways if they really wanted to know but it looks like they are not checking yet and probably won't unless so many people do this that it causes problems for their network.

Those websites use your user-agent from your browser, which contain your operating system in them usually, this information could be sniffed out, if they were willing to look at every packet you send in that much detail, true.
But again, you could say you used a user-agent switcher url]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.linuxjet.apps.ChromeUA[/url to get access to a website that only likes certain browsers.

    You googled a windows update?
The updates are downloadable from microsoft's websites, I don't know for sure, but they'd probably be around the same IP addresses/data centres as the in-os updaters.

Good stuff though, there's definitely ways they could detect it reasonably as you're highlighting, but unreasonable to enforce imo.

They could easily write it in their terms and conditions that user agent apps are not supported in their service whether you like it or not.

My3 also says 2TB and I've regularly used a few hundred GB's and they don't seem to mind.

Barely use 5GB now as my home internet is fine.

I don't think they mind as long as they keep getting our €€€!

I have a huewai docking dongle and was on o2.

Could I put 3 sim into this and get better broadband for the money.

I pay €19.99 for 30days up to 7.5gb but it last very short time.

    What would be best option
