Just got offered a fixed term contract instead of a permanent job? I do not recall the job as been advertised as fixed term, but it is a junior position so i suppose it is not to be unexpected. The Conditions are 30kpa with vhi and bonus if applicable. I was told it is a view to be made permanent, what does this mean exactly? I suppose i would half to check the fine print to make it is not a rolling contract? Are fixed term contracts common for junior positions?

That once you pass your reviews you will be offered a permanent contract. If not your contract won't be renewed after the fixed term or if there isn't a position available

The contract is for a year but i just realized there is nothing written in the contract about renewal or a review for a permanent position?

They are using it as a way to have a year of you working there to see how suitable you are.

If you want to you can ask about the possibility of being made permanent.

One place I worked in gave three year fixed term contracts, prior to making people permanent.

50% of people on them were let go at the end.
