Want to claim jobseekers but only looking for part-time work

So I left my previous job because I wanted to change from full time to part time work (to facilitate childcare in the afternoons) and it wasn't possible in that company... I now want to apply for Jobseeker's Allowance/benefit, (not clear on the difference!) but someone told me it isn't possible to claim on a part time basis. Does anyone know if that's true?

You must be seeking full-time work to be entitled to job-seekers allowance. In theory even if you find part-time work you must still look for full-time work. I am not sure in practice how much they will check up on you if you have found part-time work.
