I'm importing my car that I've owned in the UK for over three years. My question is do I need to send documentation with my Vrt Transfer of residence form to revenue or do I just present them at the next centre when it's being inspected? Thanks

You need to send the evidence with the VRT ToR form.

All being well Revenue will then issue you an exemption certificate which you present at the NCT centre when you will be issued with the registration number after the inspection.

I had booked my inspection and then revenue stalled and asked for more details, some of which I find very invasive. So now I'm subject to a cancellation fee when I re book the test!

You should have read up on it before you found it very invasive.

That doesn't even make sense! I had read up on it but there's nothing to explain about the level of information they've asked for. I knew I needed to supply so much and I duly did. But then got asked to provide a lot more.

Thats not particularly helpful. What was your motivation for such a comment?

You just need to prove that you were in fact resident out of the state. So they will ask for payslips, bank statements etc. Is that what you're finding invasive?

I was in a similar situation last year - although I was only claiming residency for the 12 months I owned the car in the uk, for some reason they asked for documents for the time I had lived in Spain (7 years). After having my certs sent from my accountant in Gibraltar, they deemed that they were "not conclusive" They then asked for financial details which I wasnt happy to share with them, and which would have actually cost me money to prepare.

I got the impression that they were simply trying to frustrate the process. I gave up in the end! ( the vrt was only 700 euro - It wasnt like I was trying to import a year old range rover or anything)
