Not sure how the process works, so any advice would help!

Our trading hours in my job have been extended.

As a result, my boss has taken on new staff, and feels it only fair to split the hours evenly. This results in me potentially going from full time hours (36 hours over four days) to me being on reduced hours (33 hours one week, over three days, 23 hours on alternating weeks over three days).

If I apply for casual jobseekers, is it possible to get it on alternating weeks only? Ie, the weeks I'm on 23 hours? If not, I probably can't afford the commute costs (I commute two hours each way by public transport) and will be financially worse off than if I were on the dole!

To add, I only took this job because I was promised a minimum 30 hours per week, and left a job with the boss' brother for this job. I've been working in this job for eight months, so I know if I refuse to do only 23 hours, I can be sacked with no comeback.
