    Hi,

Is it possible to claim tax back for my dad, he is a nursing home, unable to do this so I am looking after all his finance things (unofficially)

Also, changing it here but with regards to my dad's nursing home, he is with the fair deal scheme, can he still claim tax back on what he pays for his care.

    Thanks

You'll need to complete a MED 1 form.

He can only claim tax relief on any expense he has incurred. So, if for example, the original fee was 20k, and he got a refund of 15k through the fair deal scheme, then he can only claim relief on the remaining 5k

Yeah, can see a big lump of his pension being taken every month in his advice slip

ok so do a tax return for him so claiming the expenses and request a P21 balancing statement.

It's surprising the amount of people who think they can claim tax relief but they don't actually pay tax.

Also there are exemption limits which are slightly more beneficial if he is over 65 -
