Car Hire in Manchester - Age 22

Hi all, hoping somebody can help me out on this.

I'm travelling over to Manchester in September and i'm looking to hire a car.

It will be for 4 days. A lot of companies that I have looked at either don't allow drivers under 25. Those that do have a 'Young Driver Policy'. This is usually age 22-25.

Many of them though charge about E35 a day extra for a 'young driver'.

I'm just wondering does anybody know any good reputable company that either doesn't charge at all for a 22 year old driver or charges less than E35.

Would be really grateful for any help as I'm hoping to get this sorted as soon as possible!

    Thanks.

I know this isn't what you asked, but will you really need a car? Public transport in and around Manchester is very good (bus, tram, train). Taxis also not that expensive (compared to London).

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, i'll need the car. In Manchester City for 2 days and then have to travel 2 hours north for 2 days, and then flying back out of Manchester Airport. Train costs around £60 return and i'm splitting the cost of car hire with a friend so it would hopefully work out cheaper. Would also be paying for the bus/ tram while getting around Manchester, so it would be a little cheaper but a lot more convenient if I had a car!

I can only not recommend Alamo.

When I lived in Manchester, I needed a car for a couple of days and although their website had no issue with my age and details I put in, the individual branch of Alamo did and refused to give me the car.

So when you do book it, call up the branch in question to make sure.

Two I used when over there and can recommend are - http://www.howarthbros.com/ their website is fairly basic so can't tell if the under 25 thin applies, very down to earth and nice people. Other one is http://www.county-rental.co.uk/ again, nice people if a bit more business - like, they do have an under 25 thing but would be worth trying, not far from the airport too.

Thank BBK! Will stay away from them! Appreciate it!

Thanks Simon. Will try these two, hopefully they don't have excess for young drivers... We are poor students! Haha
