Skoda Superb II 1.8 TSI DSG Gear Judder

    Hi All.

I have just purchased a 2010 Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI DSG.

It only has 55k miles and very good spec and overall I'm very pleased with it.

However I've started to notice a shudder/ judder/ vibrations when accelerating and particularly in 1st and 2nd. I've done a quick Google and it seems a known clutch/ gearbox issue.

Has anyone any experience or additional context on this?

Would this still be covered by the original Skoda warranty?

Anyone know of any related recalls?

Dealer gave me a 6 month warranty so I'll be going there asap but wanted to learn as much as I can on the potential issue in advance.

Any help/ advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    BJ

Has the transmission service been done ?

Because it would be slightly overdue

Has it had the gearbox oil and filter change at 60k km/40k miles?

Also I think these gearboxes have a DMF.

I don't know. When would this have been due and what is the extent of that service but assume that this is a known major service at a particular point in time?

I'll check the service history now. It's a petrol. Would that rule out DMF?

A fair few petrols have Dual Mass Flywheels, Im guessing it's it's DSG it has one.

Man you want is George Dalton tbh

Don't know, sorry, there are six-speed, seven-speed, dry clutch, wet clutch,...

I believe the service requirement is 40k miles / 60k km for all, however, and it is absolutely vital that it is done.

Just an update - as I was curious - it seems from Google that some of the 7-speed dry-clutch units are apparently the dreaded "sealed for life". Think it might be worth calling Skoda and asking them (but I would probably go with whatever George Dalton says)!

The warranty should include gearbox, check it with the Skoda dealership you purchased from. When I bought my Octavia from Ballsbridge Motors the warranty included the gearbox, parts and labour also

Muppetcheck is the expert on Skoda from what I see on previous Skoda brand posts.

Thanks all for replies so far.

I didn't buy from a Skoda dealer but secondhand from a (what I hope is a reputable) independent dealer.

He gave me a 6 month written warranty covering engine and gearbox.

Do you know if Skoda would be liable on a car/ gearbox of this age/ mileage if that were the problem?

It's a 7 speed in the superb I think. VAG had a recall on those to change the oil type in them, I wonder if it happened in Ireland? Can lead to the clutches needing replacement early.

Was it a Skoda dealer you bought from?

EDIT - it wasn't a Skoda dealer. Does the car have a full Skoda service history? Might be worth calling a dealer and seeing if there is a recall on it.

Couple of TSBs mentioned in the "bad" section of this:

    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/skoda/superb-2008/?section=good

"Transmission fluid changed under TSB TSB 34F6 in 45k mile 2010 Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI DSG in July 2014 with the explanation that the standard synthetic oil could cause an electrical fault in the Mechatronics of the DSG box. After a few hundred miles symptions of hesitation and noises ceased. Original complaint was received 17-3-2014 (above)and when the reader took the car to the dealer suggesting a change of fluid he was told this was nonsense and that the transmission was sealed for life."

Worth having a look on Briskoda, UK Skoda site.

Looking at service history was serviced at 50k and again at 70k kms but no reference to gearbox oil and filter change.

Assume this should be done asap?

Do you think (non Skoda independent) dealer should do this under 6 month warranty?

Also called dealer today and no recall on this.

    Cheers!
