Changing up training style

    Hi everybody,

    I've been weight training for over a year now with pretty good results. My weight has stayed the same but my body composition has changed quite a bit. Happy out. I've been mostly training in a hypertrophy sense a la bodybuilding E.g. A good bit of isolation excercises, high reps etc but I'm thinking I should change more to focusing on my compound movements and improving my strength.

    Would this mean less sets and reps in the gym for me? Also, I want to lose more fat so I'm a bit confused as to whether I should eat more calories to get bigger and stronger or try and keep to a deficit to cut? Any one with any words of wisdom for me?

    Whatever you've been doing, do the opposite.

    Long term bulk? Diet down a bit.

    Long term calorie restriction? Work calories back up to normal to give your body a break for a while before starting the deficit again 6-12 weeks down the line (learning how to maintain bodyweight is more important than losing it, long term)

    Switch to some sort of strength biased program, or something totally different ala CrossFit.

    You don't need to be in a surplus to get stronger with good strength training plans.
