Should I go to my local hardware or should I go to a Mill ? What price will it be per foot ?

Go to a proper builders merchant with a list of what you want; price per foot will depend on a number of variables of course, including: whether rough sawn or not, section size (4x2", 6x 2" etc),length and grade (C16 etc). Allow for a certain amount of waste, including timber that will be unfit for use (waney, crooked etc). I've used this site to get a rough idea when pricing stuff and find it useful:

In Meath or Dublin; try Flanagans timber in Duleek
