8/bale gone up from 7.5/bale last year. They rake it before the baler as well.

8 euro must include wrapping as well. I got baling and wrapping done last year for 6 euro per bale. There are a lot of balers around me though!

Yes that includes wrapping as well. Seem to be the go around here for lads with fairly decent balers.

6.50 per bale here. Including wrapping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭GreaseGunner

Generally 5 to bale and 2.50 to wrap here, a few small differences between lads but they're all in and around the 7.50

5.50 a bale if you supply wrap to us,7.50 if we use our own,we don't buy our own wrap to use on other peoples bales this year anymore because of costs so men supply their own mostly

6 euro for fusion per bale and 7 euro per acre to rake in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,735 ✭✭✭lakill Farm

all these prices exclude plastic and is a separate baler and wrapper unit

    €9 - mow , bale and wrap
    €6 bale and wrap
    €3.50 to bale

if a place is light or in a big hurry he sometimes rakes for free, but im about 1km from his yard

also he bales for me always after his own mower which is a 9ft

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭djmc

I got a man to finish off baling one time my baler broke down, he made 30 bales. When he called for his payment he asked me how many I said 30 but he disagreed and said he made 40. I reluctantly paid him for 40 bales and made it my business to count the bales as I was feeding them because they were net wrapped and my bales were tied with twine, the count was 30 bales net wrapped. Surely it isn't a big job to write down the number of bales when you finish.

Last year we paid €8.50 for mow-row-bale-wrap, if he supplies wrap its another €3, and if needed €0.50 to draw in, but fields surrounding yard so no distance to travel.

Looking at about the 6-6.50 mark so. Not too bad I suppose. We do buoy it in ourselves though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,741 ✭✭✭CloughCasey1

    11.50 mow/chopped bale/double wrap
    9 chopped bale/double wrap

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,389 ✭✭✭Sami23

    6.50 bale and wrap
    8.50 cut, bale and wrap
3 euro per bale for plastic extra if he supplies

€9.50 to bale and wrap. 2 different contractors with Fusion balers but only a few cent in the difference. Just to bale with out wrapping would be €7 I suppose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 740 ✭✭✭IH784man

    That's expensive enough

Double layer than normal of plastic loads of lads do it around here. Helps with puncturing of the bale.

Just on that note if you use the NRF plastic at a cost of €1 extra a bale you get practically the same result as double wrapping at much less cost than €3 per bale extra.I know its not for everyone but its got a lot of good points in its favour!

    What's NRF?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 151 ✭✭thetiredfarmer

    What's NRF?
Its the new stuff Net Replacement Film, its like a roll of wrap only 4ft wide and it goes on instead of the net to keep the bale together until its wrapped. you put on 4 layers of it around the barrel of the bale and then wrap with the standard amount of wrap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,593 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

Is it a direct replacement for the net, or do older balers need modification to handle the NRF?

It is a direct replacement for the net but I don't know if any baler can actually be modified to use it.

As far as I know it's just the fusion can handle it at the moment. Fed 30 bales of it last winter and didn't have the best experience with it. The start of the film was in under a layer of grass and was a balls of a job to get it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,593 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

We're fine with the net. Only issue we have with it (and its not really an issue) is that the recyclers won't take the net, so have to separate it out from the plastic and bin it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 740 ✭✭✭IH784man

Was there any real point in introducing that net replacement? Is it easy handled or recycled or what is the point if it's dearer.

I was wondering the same myself. Even when it comes to moving the bales from A to B before they're wrapped, surely net would be better able for wear and tear?

same here seen no great advantage to it. bought in bales so no sure of baling costs

It's only designed to be used with combo units, not really designed for handling until fully wrapped, i don't know if it'd be worth the extra 8k cost on a fusion 3 just to get the net box changed to handle it no matter how much of it you were gona be using...

I suppose bales mightn't burst as handy in the field when your wrapping if you come in a the wrong angle at a bale, happened to me a few times?

Surely it will be very handy at feeding out time, should be able to cut it with a swipe of the knife and remove it in one go much easier than messing around with net? Also should help bales to hold their shape better.

We have been onto our local contractor about getting it, the auld lad reckons it will be a mighty job.

On topic, its around 11 euro a bale to bale and double wrap (wrap supplied by contractor). We do the cutting, turning, drawing ourselves.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 740 ✭✭✭IH784man

If you cut the net near the bottom and pull it off from where you cut it it comes of handy enough.I don't see how the plastic could be any handier really.

If you mean the nrf I don't think there's any standard baler that's on the market yet, don't think it's really designed to be used at seperate baling and wrapping jobs...
