Is it ok to consume whey protein over a year old?

Best before date says 2016 however I'm wondering if that means without opening the seal on it? I've an opened one I bought last summer that was hiding in the cupboard. Seal is open so air got to it just wondering if that's a problem?

does it not say something like 'once opened use within X amount of days'

No on the back of it it just says "batch no. And best before end: See Base"

It's good until the BB date.

And probably for a while after it.

You'll know by the smell and/or if it's gone clumpy if it's had its day.

A best before date is the date until which a foodstuff retains its specific properties e.g. taste, aroma, appearance, any specific qualities which relate to the product. I would say you are good, as long as it's been in an air tight container it's probably grand.
